Herman Becker Rites Monday – Herman F. Becker, 76, for many years a well-known and respected resident of the town of Woodland passed away in Hillsboro Friday Night December 10th. McLain, pastor of the Hillsboro Congregational Church officiated at the rites. Burial was in Mt. Vernon Cemetery. Herman Frederick Becker, son of the late Frederick and Louise Becker, was born in Buche Pommer, Germany, December 2nd, 1867. When he was thirteen years of age his parents migrated to the United States. They came directly to Wisconsin and established their home in the town of Wonewoc, Juneau county. It was in this community that Mr. Becker attended school and grew to young manhood. He was united in matrimony to Miss Eliza Aegerter of Hillsboro on September 5th, 1894, the ceremony taking place in this (?). To this union were born nine children, two of whom preceded their parents in death. For thirteen years Mr. Becker was the brewmaster at the Hillsboro Brewery. In 1908 he moved his family to a farm in the Town of Woodland where for the past thirty-five years he had resided. He remained actively engaged in farming until he was taken ill two weeks ago. Mr. Becker was preceded in death by his wife, Eliza, who passed away April 24, 1938; two children, Irwin and Vera, who died in infancy; one sister, Clara; and five grandchildren. He is survived by seven children: Harry of Hillsboro, Louisa (Mrs. Joseph Erie) of Hillsboro, Fred of LaValle, Dewey of Reedsburg, Arlene (Mrs. Alfred Ratzburg) of Wonewoc, Orval at home, Alesa (Mrs. Frank Quinn) of Hillsboro; one sister, Mrs. Enos Kimball of Wonewoc; one brother, Emil Becker of Altoona, Wis.; eighteen grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and a large number of friends. Mr. Becker was a man of integrity and industry. He was a kind father and a friendly neighbor, congenial and considerate toward all whom he met. He will be sadly missed in the community and by all who knew him.
